PTSD Spirituality: Orange Armadillos PTSD Triggers and Hope

Snow Leopards Are Wonderful.Caution: This essay references Orange Armadillos.

PTSD can be devastating, confusing, and deadly. If we don’t recognize it, we are more vulnerable to its vicious goals to alienate, isolate, and harm us. If we are one of the fortunate ones, we recognize it and can name it. This is an important first step to gaining hope for our future and dispelling despair. In Hope is Life.[Continue Reading…]

PTSD Spirituality: The PTSD Thaw is a Two-Edged Sword

The PTSD That is a Two Edged Sword

The PTSD Thaw is a Two Edged Sword

A period of thawing out from PTSD’s ice tomb of isolation can occur as we learn how to understand and manage our PTSD. As we crack out of our PTSD-induced Ice Age, we become less frozen in terms of our relationships with our own selves, our various communities, God, and the Creation. Like a Spring thaw it can be a period which allows for the germination of new life. And like a Spring thaw, it can rapidly melt the ice and raise the water over our head. In this sense, the process of thawing out from our PTSD isolation can feel like a two-edged sword.[Continue Reading…]

PTSD Spirituality: Unrelated Triggers, Booze, and Hot Dogs

Hot Dogs and Corn on the Cob

Hot Dogs and Corn on the Cob

One of the many “joys” of having PTSD is that we can get triggered by events and situations which have nothing to do with our initial traumas. Depending on levels of stress one can be more susceptible to activation of their PTSD symptoms and behaviors. Such has been my life of late. O’ Joy, O’ Bliss! Lucky Me![Continue Reading…]

PTSD Spirituality: Another Memorial Day … Damn

Fair Warning: This is not a “Patriotic” essay.Dragon Grapihte 2

Memorial Day: We’ll get our share of drive-by caring and plastic patriotism. In some areas we will have to endure fireworks. And, we will have to deal with the specter of those afflicted with Compassion Deficit Disorder (CDD) … nothing quite like being blamed for having PTSD, sensitivity to triggers, and living in a fear-state, just because we “couldn’t hack it” or because we are “cowards.” The news media, practicing a predictable “calendar journalism,” will show a brief uptick of interest in those with military service.[Continue Reading…]

PTSD Spirituality: PTSD and Reactions to the Paris Attacks

The recent terrorist attacks in Paris can aggravate the PTSD of people who do not even live in France. For those who live with PTSD, the Paris attacks send out ripples of traumatic triggers which can catalyze a fresh onset of PTSD driven behaviors. Not everyone with PTSD will react in the same way. But PTSD will usually try to push us into one extreme or another.[Continue Reading…]

PTSD Spirituality: Anniversary Dates, Transitions, Triggers

Anniversary dates can remind us of life transitions that then trigger PTSD symptoms and behaviors. Just like certain smells, sounds, and locations can be PTSD triggers, a meaningful anniversary date can trigger PTSD. Frequently, these anniversary dates represent a moment of transition. PTSD Spirituality: Where to Start, How to Go On

If you feel your life has no value and there is no hope. Please do not kill yourself.

It’s been an age since I have posted anything here at the PTSD Spirituality website. Mostly, it has been due to illness; the “Usual Suspects” of chronic pain, PTSD issues, mobility problems, and the mocking exhaustion from having nothing left to offer after teaching a class or going grocery shopping (hard to believe I once ran cross country). Added to those guys is a persistent, nagging, feeling of hubris, of unworthiness, of not really having much to say that counts in the big picture.[Continue Reading…]

PTSD Spirituality: Until Twilight’s Last Gleaming

The Independence Day weekend is now behind us (Thank God, literally).   Fireworks often serve as PTSD triggers for those who have survived various forms of trauma.  This is true for [Continue Reading…]

PTSD Spirituality: Not Morally Deficient, We’re Protective

PTSD Spirituality: PTSD, Teasing, and Sexual Harassment

Harassment can inflict the PTSD soul wound. Bullying and harassment can severely damage our identity, our souls. While we often think of military combat as the cause of PTSD, we can receive PTSD in several other ways. These forms of attack will damage us beyond the physical. American culture is slowly becoming more aware that bullying, teasing, and harassment can leave emotional scars and even lead to death. At times what may start as[Continue Reading…]
