PTSD Spirituality: Military Grapples with PTSD Wounds

by Dr. Z on July 18, 2010

Take a look at this article by Greg Jaffe,  Military Reckons with the Mental Wounds of War, in today’s online Washington Post.  While it is meaningful from several angles I am struck at how useless some of the military doctors chose to be.

I am also struck by the frank admission that PTSD trauma causes changes to the brain.  PTSD is not a choice it is a physical and spiritual wound.  It happens to trauma survivors in both military and civilian situations.

The Washington Post continues to be one of the few newspapers providing more than lip service in the coverage of PTSD.

In other news: I continue my own writing and research on PTSD.  I am currently reading a book called “Denial” in order to review it.  It is very powerful and I can only read a bit at a time without activating my own symptoms, so the review will not immediately arrive.  I have the unfortunate habit of actually reading most of the books I review, that makes it take longer.
